You're cruzin' the
radio band...when all of a sudden your RF signal falls
through a sunspot wormhole and get transported back into a
different phase!!!! However, you're OK with this though;
because you packed a phase-modulation FM equivalent rig to
talk on the local repeater
You hear the faint
electronic beats of a Beat Frequency oscillator in the
distance. As you tune closer towards the music of an AM
broadcast, you come across what appears to be an
out-of-band CBer that looks suspicious and most likely
jamming.
In May of 2002 he was sitting in the municipal park on a
sunny afternoon, and he was laughing at something on the
amateur radio.
I remember Hiram Percy Maxim W1AW liked ham radio and he had this big antenna on his roof that was so old it was about to fall down. He would talk on that ham radio a lot. He really loved it, and he found a community there.

scarcely a pause for rest, been systematically murdering
the young generation of its country by methods as
barbarous and bestial as any now being practised in
Europe.

This is the first of several postings based on a new book, The Conservative War Against Democracy (2006, New York: HarperCollins, 2006, 476 pp.). The book is about conservatives and their intellectual heritage. I will focus here on the intellectual heritage of conservatism as viewed by Berlinger.

I was just a kid when I found that not all countries had
the freedoms of the United States. In other words, if one
went for a walk, as you would in Russia or Europe, you can
be falsely accused of a crime, and, unfortunately, in a
worse place, just go for them, you may find yourself in
trouble.
A lie can travel half
way around the world while the truth is putting on its
shoes.
The Soviets took very
seriously what we were saying. It was a threat to the
future of their country.
So I think that played
into their decision to develop a nuclear counter-strike.
There’s this myth that you have to have a nuclear
deterrent, or a threat of nuclear use. That’s the thing
that a lot of people forget, is that there was a
possibility of going to war.
An idea suddenly popped up: why not use the new Soviet
rocket engines to launch the Soviet missiles from the
Soviet territory into the United States?
Why launch a missile from a country that is falling apart,
when you can launch a missile from a country that’s not
falling apart?
And that’s when they started thinking, they’re already
thinking, I’m sure, about Cuba. What Cuba did to the
United States. So maybe they can launch a missile into
Cuba, into the United States, before the United States can
launch a missile into Cuba. So that’s the fear I think.
That was the idea. And at the time, even the Soviet Union
was a little paranoid, or at least a little fearful.
My first memory was sitting in my fourth-grade classroom
staring at the My World Map. It showed the red Soviet
Union spreading halfway around the world. Eleven time
zones! Red! The only color on the chart!
The Soviet Union was so big that it spanned two countries,
Ukraine and Kazakhstan. My favorite part of this map was
how a small little island of Germany could be sitting all
alone right in the middle of all those countries.
It was my introduction to another big, scary country and a
lesson in the ways of the world.
I came to find out, by the time I was in eighth grade,
that the red on the map was not meant to represent only
one country; it was just a red dot to show you where
Russia was. It really made me uneasy. The idea of being
scared of a whole country because of one small dot —
that’s the definition of paranoia.
But I still didn’t realize how small and harmless the
little dot was. It was just one state in the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and was known as the
Soviet Union, not the Red Russia.
The revolution was the
voice of the people.
It was their shout of rage against the injustice and
oppression of life.
And tell them, comrade, I do not bring any message.
And beyond in the background the city stretches endless,
noisy,
bright, like an ancient, giant city
where cowards have no place.
"Tomorrow", you say,
and in this small procrastination awaits the whole
the huge never.
Comrades! Fellow revolutionaries! The inevitable time has
come,
one night, we will upend the social order of humanity!

But why be sad: the most beautiful thoughts have always

People are in a hurry: worries, living conditions, dreams,
compromises - where to get to know their lives. The rat
race, the eternal commute.
They even say that when Stalin died they followed the
funeral procession all the oil lamps of the sad suburbs,
lowered of course for the occasion. And so many of his old
exaggerations were explained.
People told me I was elected. I was in a room of
politicians, I was on a cable news show. You know, Russia
doesn't need a government! There is no government! This
country needs a revolution!
